The Citadel of Aleppo
Rising on the mound at the centre of the city, one of the oldest castles anywhere. It reopened in late 2025 after post-earthquake repair, with the entrance bridge and southern tower restored.
The Al-Madina Souq
The sections nearest the citadel have reopened, with shops, cafes and cultural centres working. Restoration continues across the rest of the thirteen-kilometre bazaar.
Aleppo soap
Traditional soap made with olive and laurel oil, cut into blocks and cured for months. Production has restarted in the workshops, where the cutting and stacking can be watched.
The Jdeydeh Quarter
North of the citadel, a quarter of stone courtyard houses and churches. Some of the restored mansions now work as restaurants and hotels.
Aleppo cooking
Cherry kebab, muhammara and the pistachio kebabs are the city's own repertoire. Related to the kitchens of Antep and Hatay, but balanced with different spice.
