Europe-Asia Bridge

Ancient Saraishyq
The ruins about 50 kilometres north of the city belong to an important Silk Road centre of the Golden Horde period. A museum displaying the excavation finds and a memorial complex stand on the riverbank site.

Opened in 2001, the mosque with its white front and blue dome is the city's principal place of worship. It stands on the Asian bank of the Ural, and the centre and the bend of the river are visible from its minarets.
Assumption Cathedral
The nineteenth century wooden Orthodox church is one of the few buildings left from the town's Russian fishing settlement period. Its green roof and onion domes stand on the European bank of the river.
Ural river embankment
The laid out riverside walk along both banks is the city's main promenade. It is lit in the evenings and boat trips run on the river in summer.
Atyrau Regional History Museum
The museum brings together the natural history of the Caspian shore and the Ural delta, objects from the Saraishyq excavations and a collection on nomadic culture. A section is given over to the oil history of the region.
