HomeGuideHow many days for Cappadocia?

Short answer

The ideal length for Cappadocia is 2 to 3 days. Two days cover the main highlights; three days add an underground city and the valleys at a relaxed pace. If you plan a balloon flight, stay at least two nights so a weather cancellation still leaves a second chance. You can plan the flight package with monthly payments.

2-day plan

  • Day 1: balloon flight at sunrise, Göreme Open-Air Museum, a valley walk (Red or Pigeon).
  • Day 2: Uçhisar Castle, Paşabağ and Devrent, a sunset viewpoint.

3-day plan

  • Add to the 2-day plan: an underground city (Derinkuyu or Kaymaklı).
  • An Ihlara Valley walk.
  • Pottery in Avanos by the Kızılırmak river.

Getting there from Türkiye

Direct flights from Istanbul to Nevşehir (NAV) or Kayseri (ASR) take about 1 hour 15 minutes to 1 hour 30 minutes. Because the flight is short, Cappadocia also works as a weekend getaway.

Summary

In short: 2 days cover the highlights, 3 days are more relaxed and complete. For balloons, an extra night is always a good idea.
